Announcement from College Park

posted May 1, 2011, 6:16 AM by Ryan Anderson
Thanks to the combined efforts of the College Park Neighborhood Association, The City of Lake Worth Public Services Department, The South Florida Water Management District, The Palm Beach County Office of Community Revitalization and The Robert Wood Johnson Healthy Kids, Healthy Communities Program, The College Park Board of Directors, is happy to announce that the Spillway Park Improvement Project has been completed. Funding for the project was made possible by the College Park Homeowners Assn. with matching funds awarded by the "America's Next Top Neighborhood" grant, through the Palm Beach County Resident Education to Action Program.
Three new concrete picnic tables, including one wheelchair accessible table, have been purchased and installed along with grill stands and three new attractive trash receptacles. The large dumpster has been replaced with several recycling bins. A quarter mile mulch walking trail throughout the park has been laid. New signage is in the works and will be installed very soon.

At the entrance to the Park, visitors will find a new pet station with a continuous supply of “doggy waste” bags and a receptacle. Pet owners are reminded that dogs on leash are welcome in all City Parks and we hope the pet station will encourage owners to visit often and help keep our Park clean and welcoming for all our “non-canine” neighbors too.

The Solid Waste Authority Paint Your Heart Out Program, along with Neighbors Helping Neighbors, Inc.  has generously donated paint and supplies to repaint the bathroom interiors and volunteers from the College Park Homeowners Assn. will be painting those areas in the next week or so.

Plans are in the works to hold a Neighborhood Picnic to “officially” open the New Improved Spillway Park on Saturday, July 9th. Details on the event will be presented at the next CPHA meeting on Monday, June 27th at the First Congregational Church on North K Street. The meeting starts at 6:30pm.

Special Thanks to all the College Park Neighbors who have worked for years raising funds and working hard to make College Park the place we can always be proud to call our home. Thanks also to the CPHA Spillway Park Improvement Committee members, Elaine Esplin, Steven Kaufman, Burt Minkoff, Brent Whitfield and Erica Whitfield, Chair.

Pictures of the new improvements will be available on the CPHA website very soon. For the best view, please visit our New Improved Spillway Park in person, soon and often. Spillway Park is located right along the C-51 canal on the north side of Maryland Avenue just east of Dixie Highway.

Please pass this message on to your neighbors who may not be on our email distribution list and invite them to sign up for regular updates like this from CPHA. Better yet, bring them along to our next meeting and let's keep the great momentum going.
