School Supply Drive at the Lake Worth Public Library

Following a very successful school supply drive last year, the Lake Worth Public Library has finalized preparations for its 2nd Annual School Supply Drive for Lake Worth area schools. Supplies will benefit North Grade, South Grade, Barton, Highland and Lake Worth Middle Schools. The drive will be held Friday, July 16th through Saturday, August 14th. Collected items will then be distributed to the schools on Wednesday, August 17th.

With the local economy in disarray, unemployment at an all time high and with 60-80% percent of Lake Worth area students qualifying for Free and Reduced Lunch Programs, many area families cannot afford the cost of school supplies.  Library Services Supervisor Vickie Joslin said that “The average cost of school supplies per child is about $40.00 and does not include the cost of special calculators required by some schools as well as required art supplies, multiple notebooks and more.” “It can add up quickly.” she added

Lake Worth residents and local businesses are encouraged to donate supplies to help Lake Worth’s school children. The list of needed supplies includes pens, No 2 pencils, pencil sharpeners, 3-ring binders, spiral and composition notebooks, wide ruled loose-leaf paper, backpacks, crayons, colored pencils, erasers, rulers, blunt nosed scissors, glue, glue sticks, tissues, folders with brads and pockets, protractors, washable markers, highlighters, dry erase markers, small staplers, tape, calculators and more.

Donations may be brought to the Lake Worth Library located at 15 North M St., Lake Worth during the Library’s operating hours: Tuesdays and Wednesdays between 11am and 7pm and on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 9am to 5pm.  For more information please call the Library at 561-533-7354.
